Sprouted Sourdough Starter

What you need:

  • 3/4 litre jar or bowl

Ingredients

To create the starter:

  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup sprouted whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup water

Day 1: Mix together the flour and water and let it rest in a warm spot for 24 hrs.

Day 2: Is it starting to bubble? Then let it rest another 24 hrs. If it isn’t bubbling yet that is also alright .

Day 3 :

It is now time to feed your starter even if it hasn’t bubbled yet. Remove half the starter. With the remaining starter add in and mix until smooth.

  • 1/2 cup of organic flour
  • 1/4 cup water

Day 4, 5 and 6:

Repeat steps in day 4.  Remove half the starter and feed it 1/2 flour and 1/4 cup water.

Day 7: You now have sourdough and can use it to make your favourite sourdough bread, pizza, muffins, bun etc.

Feeding your sourdough:

  1. Begin by removing and discarding about half of your starter.
  2. Replenish what’s left in the jar with fresh  flour and water.
  3. Cover loosely, and let it rise at room temperature until bubbly and double in size.
  4. Feed your starter everyday  stored at room temperature. If you keep it in the fridge, feed it once a week.

Enjoy the journey of sourdough.
